Default Unusual instrument behavior

On a few occasions lately I've noticed the instrument panel seem to very briefly glitch out, it's hard to catch but I clearly saw ABS and (!) light up, most noticeably the speedo dropped out. Bugs for like half a second then back to operating as normal. I don't see it as actually ABS related as I havn't been on the brakes when it's happened, just cruising on the freeway.

I have removed the chime from the board and didn't solder a resistor or anything in its place, there's no apparent correlation though as this doesn't ever happen when the chime would be chiming. No wiring appears loose so I'm a little puzzled here.

Could be a bad earth or connection to the instruments, perhaps.

How are your alternator & battery?

I have had something like this happen on another vehicle when the generator died & the battery was almost dead, since I was running it home purely on the battery. As the voltage drops, the instruments are one of the first things to go. Completely stopped just under 10km from home...

I had similar things happen a month or so back when driving in the rain. Speedo and rev dials dropping/twitching, abs playing up and tps losing its mind. Im pretty sure i had water in plug which i found.

My guess would be a short or bad connection some where.
Good luck with it👍

Nowhere near as extreme as that, just a single momentary glitch, happened maybe 3 times in so many weeks. Battery's fairly new and not suspecting alternator, no troubles firing up. I'm going to check connections again and give them all a clean, maybe some junk or conductive thing got stuck in there, maybe even the hacked up stock harness behind the head unit could be a culprit.

No problem starting rules out the issue I had. When it gets that bad, you won't even turn over.

Sounds much more like an earthing nut or the like has come loose, so it is making contact most of the time & occasionally being jarred open circuit.

99.9% it's your battery connections fritzing out.

It happened to me on the Hume hwy @ 100km/h.

No loss of drive, just the dash board going crazy.

In my case it was the negative battery cable that wasn't tight enough.

They're pretty $hitty cable connectors from the factory.
