hope you didn't blocked the air inlet side . It sounds like maybe the egr/inlet assembly has some blokage .
egr all it does allows part of exaust gases to be recirculated in to the inlet manifold . if you block the egr it still should run with aspirated air from air fillter.

Had another look at the car today. Still can't figure it out . I read online that someone had the same issues I am having and it ended up being the coolant temperature sensor. I have driven it today with the sensor unplugged and it was even worse than what it is with it plugged in. Loses all power at 2000 rpm. It seems as if that is limp mode with it unplugged. With it plugged back in it's a bit better but still no boost. I have spoken to the previous owner and he has told me that it had trouble starting one day due to water getting inside the big plug that comes of the fuel pump. It starts an runs fine now but I'm wondering if maybe there is a wire within the loom that goes to that plug which controls a diesel governor or something. Im not sure what the black bit on the side of the pump is. Having looked closer It does look as if someone has been into the loom at some point aswell.

When you say 'no boost', have you actually had a pressure gauge on it to show no boost? If you wish to experience no boost, you can remove the hose from the intercooler to the inlet manifold & try & run it. That will show you a no boost situation.
Typically when you have a #1 injector sensor failure, it will run well up to about 1900rpm & then no more rpm, very noticeable in 4th or 5th gear. When you make changes, do one at a time & see what happens. Removing the vac hose from the erg diaphragm (small hose) should not cause the engine to stall or not start. Removing the small hose from the turbo wastegate diaphragm should not cause the engine to stall or not start.

Sorry no I haven't had a pressure gauge on it to show no boost it's just what it feels like is happening. I have ran it with the egr vacuum pipe of and with the pipe blanked and it's no different.
