The WK2 will be bouncing around a bit, i.e. roof racks will probably get broken due to mounting, front lower air dam gone etc.

Surely the person who owns it has some experience off road before trying this track?

We first did the Canning in 1996 and then again in 2003.
Both times in VERY well prepared diesel Patrols - and not without a few issues that were fortunately readily sorted.
Times have changed a bit, but the section of sand shown in the photo is typical of sand dune approaches and these days the bottom of the run has huge holes dug from drivers using poor technique and vehicles running too high tyre pressure. The tour vehicles use 4WD Unimogs and Ivecos and these can and do dig massive holes (that can't be avoided). Any low clearance vehicle will suffer badly.
The Canning is NOT like the Simpson or Fraser.
The track is VERY remote and apart from the dune crossings the hundreds of km of the worst corrugations you can imagine will likely be by far the biggest issue. Even the fillings in your teeth will be tested.
How much can be carried, how much fuel and how is it stored, how much spares to take and ultimately how heavy the vehicles end up are all major considerations for the trip planning.
It will be a great experience but unless all vehicles are properly prepared and drivers have some decent off road experience the whole trip can quickly become an expensive character building exercise.
Oh - I wouldn't tackle it in our 2015 CRD - it is a brilliant and very capable vehicle but........
