Default 4.7L or 5.7L?

hello all

I'm in the market for a '07 to '08 Grand Cherokee but not sure what engine type to go for.
What I'm hoping to find out is what the main differences are between the two.

And last of all, is there a massive difference in terms of petrol costs?

Any help would be appreciated

5.7's are awesome, either that or diesel.

3.0L CRD everytime, but if you must have a juice guzzler then there's no substitute for cubes, the 5.7L is a must have.

I think he means he'd have the 5.7L or if not then he'd rather be dead....

Not sure about the 5.7L as I have never driven one nor been in one, but I love the 4.7L in my 99 WJ. But then there was no option of the 5.7L in that model so I have nothing to be jealous of. The 4.7L in a WJ is quite efficient for a V8 in a 4WD, but things can change quite quickly after lifting, larger tyres, roof baskets, towing etc. etc.

If you're worried about fuel economy I would go for the CRD or run one of the V8's on LPG. My 4.7L is running on LPG and $ per km wise it is about the same cost to run as a small to medium-sized four cylinder sedan. i.e. On the highway it averages about 14L/100km and around town it averages about 20L/100km, but as the price of LPG is half of petrol or diesel, it gets the $ equivalent of 7L/100km and 10L/100km.

Hope this helps?

thanks for the replies

I would love nothing more than the 5.7L but afraid of the "black hole" it will leave in my wallet

Can anyone who has got or had a 5.7L tell what kind of mileage they get? (think I'm trying to convince myself it wont be that bad)

Is your commute to work and back home all stop start peak hour traffic? That's when the 5.7 is thirstiest, be prepared for a 20-22ltr/100km.
I don't have one but would own one at the drop of the hat!

My 4.7 is on LPG so I have the joy of 75c/ltr
Freshly rebuilt HO is now returning 11-13ltrs/100km freeway and 18.5/100km around town. You can drop 2-3ltrs /100km when running it on petrol but petrol is $1.65 where I am, so that ain't fun.

Interested in what consumption 5.7 are getting on the highway. Come on 5.7's speak up.

Are there any 5.7 LPG runners out there too?
