Mod plate for everything but tyres, they are only 33's. Cause cj's came with 29 inch tyres so was not paying 2 plus grant for lane change test all other mods ticked off for $900

Hey Scruff
Been building and rebuild my 78 cj for 28 years. Replaced most things at least once. The 5.0l vn t700r is a great conversion. Had one in mine for a bit. Then upgraded to the vs 355 stoker t700 quady transfer case with part-time conversion. Amc 20 rear with a detroit, dana 30 wirh Arb up front. With 4.10 gearing it cruises at 1700 rpm at 100.
It's got plenty of go for an old girl.

I'd stay with the stock 20/30 set up and according to quickcj above the AMC20 can handle some beef up front.

Looks great.
Found a cj8 overlander with the amc 304 widetrack diffs for $12k.
Seems like a good price. What do you all think?

It's a good clean complete looking rig, anything with wide track axles and a Dana 300 transfer case is what you should be looking for anything less is a waste of time

The only way to go bigger is if the car that the replacement diffs come from came with a larger tyre then I effectively increase the base I can add the 75mm. Not sure what diffs I could use to get me to 35s.
JK's come standard with 255/75R17 or approx 32x10r17. But front drop is on the wrong side, not s showstopper but more work.
Patrol diffs could be a reasonable option but I've got NFI on their tyre size.

I'm planning to use the 5 lt out of vn as well. I'm also planning to run GQ patrol diffs and coils. Talking to sandy bowman from Aus 4wd on this conversion at the moment
