Default Air Bag Recall 2.3 million Cars in Australia

according to newscorp there are 2.3 million cars affected here in Australia and 100 million worldwide by the dodgy Takata air bags that have been responsible for several deaths world wide and many more injuries.

this includes a Sydney man last year who was killed when a shard from the faulty airbog lodged into his throat killing him after a collision

it would seem that vehicles affected range from Ford to Toyota and just about everything in between, but I haven't heard if Jeep is affected

according to reports the Federal Government will lead the recall

the dodgy air bags were first exposed a couple of years ago but to my knowledge it was dealt with, but now the problem seems to have expanded to a wider vehicle base

has any Jeep owner here had any official recall?

news reports also indicate that vehicle that do not have their air bags replaced will be deemed un-road worthy and will not be able to be sold

The recall has been around for a number of years but the car manufacturers have been dragging the chain on doing it mainly because there wasn't enough spare airbags because it effects millions of cars worldwide.
Now the government has decided to add some teeth to the recall after sitting on its hands for at least 3 years.
Fortunately for many a lot of affected vehicles are already fixed under the voluntary recall but still too many remain unrepaired.
I reckon the federal automobile chamber of commerce lobby group has been working hard behind the scenes in canberra to ensure the government didn't go the heavy but now for whatever the reason the government has grown some khunas.

Lastly a lot of wreckers will not sell secondhand airbags for any make or model because of this recall

according to the ACCC and Product Recall Australia

FCA vehicles affected are:-

2005-12 (LE/LX) Chrysler 300
2007-12 (JK) Jeep Wrangler
2004-2010 Dodge RAM

2013 (JK) Jeep Wrangler
Passenger airbag inflator - beta inflators only

2013 (LX) Chrysler 300, 300c
Passenger airbag inflator - beta inflators only

whats remarkable about the ACCC list is that there are some makes and models going way back to 1999
