What do you mean by springs and rings???Was going to do mine next service along with the full kit and caboodle of diffs/ belt/ pulleys ext...Also the kit l was looking at comes with a gasket should i use that or make my own??

Thanks so much for the reply, but I've gotten it off....finally.

Turns out the nut needs to be loosened ANTI-CLOCKWISE

Before you say 'of course it does', I'll just say I was blindly following the Haynes service manual, which clearly says the nut has to come off CLOCKWISE. Crap.
