I have heard of people trimming the shaping out of the plastic battery tray and fitting a normal lead acid battery at 1/3 of the cost of the Optima.

Don't know where you'd get your hands on a 975cca lead acid battery that small though (that's the rating on my new Optima, old one dropped a cell).
