Default 2012 CRD performance drop - Vortex diesel quality?

Hi all,

I'm finding my 2012 WK2 CRD lately appears to be down on power when running on Vortex diesel. It runs well on BP Ultimate diesel, but the drop when going to Vortex is quite noticeable.

I have always run it on Vortex since new, and noticed the slide in performance around October. I tried BP Ultimate when it became available locally and the difference is significant.

Has anyone noticed a deterioration in Vortex diesel quality in Sydney over the last couple of months?

I've noticed the same, though I'm in Brisbane. Always run BP, but switched to Caltex for a couple of tanks to take advantage of double discount. Found less power, noisier, and even a little rough on cold startup idle.

I have been running my vehicles on Vortex diesel for the last 8 years. On the odd occasion I will use either Shell or BP. Haven't noticed any difference what soever.
The vehicles are a Disco 3, Disco 4, BMW X3 and my WH.
All vehicles haven't responded any differently between the fuels. Maybe it's a QLD thing?

Cheers, Craig

I try to use BP Ultimate diesel in my WH whenever I can get it; I have tried Caltex Vortex on a few occasions but I felt that it did not provide the same performance as the BP. I have done some testing between the 2 when I have been towing my 2.2 tonne caravan and I found that the BP did consistently give 50k per tank better mileage and it seemed to provide better power when going up hills. I believe that the cetane rating of Vortex is 46-50, BP guarantee 55-60. One of my mates drives a 3.0l Patrol and another a Landrover Defender...both have tried the Vortex and also the BP and both of them now use the BP as they found the same results as I did.

I found the same on cold start-up as well used the accelerator to smooth it out then it was fine..on cold start-up I find the BP starts first turn whereas the Vortex started between 2nd and 3rd turn
