Default Welder Reviews

Hey guys, Looking at pickin up a new MIG tomorrow. I am looking at single phase, gas/gasless MIG around 250amp.

I keep seeing the CIGWELD series around... They look the go... can anyone give me any feedback on the brand? I was looking at UNIMig too but a few people told me to steer clear of their single phase units. Lincoln is out of my price range... who else is there? My budget is $2k max.

Thanks!

yeh go the cigweld, ( i had a 250 cigweld as first mig )they've been around for ages and consumables for the gun are readily available, get the 250 amp, you'll need 15 amp power supply, I know of a few businesses that have unimigs and they are troublesome/unreliable, you get what you pay for though... try and get an auto darkening shield in the deal also...good luck!...

depends what you wanna do, single phase will get you by for car stuff, with the plasma make sure you check specs for 'sever' and 'clean cut' the salesman will tell you sever thickness to 'talk up' the machine, clean cut is usually half of sever thickness, I've got an 80 amp hypertherm ( 1250 model, 3 phase ) I hardly use it , they need big cfm air supply , chews consumables ($$$) , the fumes from cutting are dangerous and messy and for the time spent cutting things its far more effective to get things laser cut, with the added bonus of highly accurate dimensions from laser nc...
