jeep gc build quality

I am in the same boat really...I have to be honest and say I sometimes regret buying this 2015 poverty pack diesel. I really wanted a Hemi Limited or Overland rather than another diesel Laredo.
I needed wheels quickly was the problem as I had none, had commitments to travel, and wasn't keen on cancelling plans to wait for the right Jeep to maybe come up. There was nothing around that appealed at the time I was looking.

I am thinking maybe I should move this Laredo on sooner rather than later as it will be at 150,000 kms soon and will begin to lose it's appeal as well as it's worth.
In it's current form it will appeal to some one wanting to tow and also go off road as it has all the right gear.

But again, being fussy as I am, finding the right vehicle with the right history at the right price will not be easy...what ever I buy too has to see me out...

Depends what you want to do with it really, towing duties or highway cafe racer, I still think the 2015 was/is the best of the models and a Lardeo probably far better if wanting one of these Toorak tractors to do some bush work as you can add usefull bits to it, lots of the so called Off Road bling thats comes with these things nowadays is really just bling to cover piss poor drivers capabilities.... and I don't mean just Jeeps... being old school I came with traction control and stuff in my DNA, many will know that it's located in the bum cheeks .............. Don't get me wrong some of the stuff is good, like AWD but some of it dumbs down on driving skills for proper bush work and gives confidence to do things you shouldn't.... or should I say let idiots prove themselves to be just that...

I tend to agree with you, my 2015 gc limited with 70,000km has been faultless so far and everything seems pretty solid.
As said, not sure if it is an Overland thing, my mate 2012 doors just feel more sold when closing.
I also noticed his 2012 gc appears to have the same vm diesel engine as my 2015 but has a CRD badge on it.

Checked in again only to find myself taunted by this thread. I hate it!! I hate all the reminders of my beloved GC that I let go and can't get back! Have I mentioned I still miss my 2013 5sp chariot - a lot? A solid, well built, reliable beast that's now driving around in another state, so thankfully I can't see it. BUT to make matters worse, albeit he's an extremely nice bloke, her new owner sent me pics of the car's now black painted grill and wheels etc, completely devoid of her jewellery

I wish still had the GC parked next to my (still amazing) Skoda in the garage, a perfect duo for all seasons. It ain't gonna happen though.

The diesel is the same engine from 2011 to 2021 with a few changes along the way, ours is the A630 designated by Jeep as EXF, the Yank engines came out in 2014 as a L630 which has been pollution modified , has different HP and is probably the reason why they have trouble and we don't.... Over the years turbos have changed along with gearboxes, fuse boxes and fuel pump systems with the 13/14 year models being the Guinea Pig years I tend to think. Many publications don't seem to know that the engine was even in a Grand before 14 when the Yanks got them in theirs .... Various changes to HP depending on model also .... ours is the Export model so engine and even equipment is not the same as the Yank equivalent.

The only variation here that I am aware of is when the turbo was blessed with water cooling, and the 8spd was slotted in, it then also came with a jump in output from 179KW to 184KW, as well as a slight increase in torque to 580nm.

Not so much wishing for a "Cafe Racer", just much prefer the exhaust note of the Hemi V8 to the sound of a muffled V6 diesel...lol.

When I talk of off road gear, I refer to the winch, bull bar, spotties and bash plates fitted to mine...besides the tow bar of course...I don't seer a whole lot of WK2's with a winch fitted.

When it comes to off road prowess, the GC isn't too bad, mine was not embarrassed at all on the Old Tele...nor the CREB, kept up with every other make of 4wd that was covered in bling.
The only shortcoming it has is the independent suspension each end often leaving a wheel dangling which the built in Traction Control just cannot overcome meaning a quick snatch out of trouble.




But that aside, the GC is a damned good vehicle regardless of what is under the bonnet...

The change in badging was purely for simplification at the factory to streamline it with the recently-made-available US diesel (which was the true EcoDiesel).

Many if not all of the MY14 facelift export diesels still used the CRD badging, despite the revised engine - I'm assuming to get rid of the old badging stock.
