Default Ignition coil replacement

I pulled the ignition coil out of the XJ because I'd pretty much eliminated every other likely cause of the irregular/infrequent misfire, the engine would start and run for ages without a "hiccup" then as it approached normal operating temperature 90~100c the surging/chugging at light load would begin & disappear under hard acceleration only to reappear on light engine loading...

After cleaning up the unit it became apparent all was not well, it had developed at least 4 significant cracks in the casing (see pictures below) and on further investigation a notable increase in the resistance between the primary terminal pins (above specification) was evident

Now I know Bosch make nice GT40R coils for both points and electronic type ignitions (but not apparently for the Jeep) has anyone tried an MSD #8228 coil OR perhaps recommend something else I wont need to get from the Official Jeep Stealerships?

I got one from teamcherokee.com . Not sure of brand, probably a crown or omix Ada one. I Can't remember the exact price, I think it was slightly less then that msd one. If you can get them to ship here 49 bucks sounds like a decent price for that msd coil.

I have looked at this coil but there is no info on whether the pins are round or straight. As I understand it from talking to efi parts in Brisbane (they have stock coils available) there are two coils depending on year one with round pins and one with straight pins? Pre facelift round, post facelift straight. You couls call Rocket industries in Sydney they are MSD distributors here in OZ (02 88251900 or sales@rocketind.com)

Thanks for all the replies, unfortunately I'm in a bit of a hurry (not a good thing to be with Jeep parts) so I may need to get something closer to home or visit a wrecking yard for a yet unknown quality recycled part

Thanks... like all the "others" they don't have it currently in stock but can order it in specialty should I want them too...

I know of one bolted to a wreck locally but there's no guarantee it's any better than what I already have now

EDIT: I decided if I had to order something in I'd avoid the higher local prices and get the MSD Blaster coil direct from the US... should anyone be in a similar predicament Poly 4X4 have an abundance of Jeep ignition coils though it can be a bit of a pain (to collect) if you're not located in Melbourne's western suburbs however shipping is available
