Ever since new the JK has got well very little TLC in the car care department. The best it ever got was mostly commercial car wash hose down, and scrubbing brush. Once every 6 months it would get a home wash with a sponge and chamois drying. My mentality its a bit like taking your gum boots to to get a shoe shine.
However, with my wheeling buddy trading in his defender for a BMW, I figured wheeling would become fairly infrequent affair. With that in mind I decided to give the JK some proper love. It was also a good excuse to use the hundred of dollars of car care product sitting around in garage and to buy a RO polisher from carcareproducts.com.au.
From the before photos you can clearly see the bush pin striping, some were quite deep and through the clear coat. I could never expect a concours finish given the harsh treatment the panels have had, but from the photos you can clearly see the improvement.
As its the first time I've use and RO polisher, I took it pretty gently with a clay 2 polishes and a wax.
0) Clay
1) medium cut
2) low cut
3) Carnuba wax.
Spent about 3 hours on the car, only managed to get about 1/3 of it done. I didn't have all the equipment (the proper masking tape) or time to mask off everything et etc. This was just a test bed to see how it was work taking and here are the results.
Now just have to see how long the wax and polish will last and stay looking like this. It park outside so gets its fair share of the elements. I'll finish off the rest of the car in the next few weeks and cust it back with a few more passes. My aim is to reduce the visibility of the scratches, as i think removing them completely would be impossible.
I'm pretty happy with the results for a first go, but with a bit more practice I reckon I could make it even better.
