IMO. Running low tyre pressures too long on black top will create heat and subsequently possible excess tyre wear or even damage. Your handling will suffer too, especially if your tyres are higher profile than the OEM tyres.
If you want to test pressures, try the 4psi rule. I.E Check your tyre's pressures when cold, go for a long run (at least 50k) and check them again . The pressure will increase but should not be more than 4psi higher. If higher than 4psi, then they are too low. Off road it's a different story of course
In my JK I run km2 at 36-38 with no ill effects or discomfort as pressures reach 40-41 when hot. I've never rotated my tyres and I get an even wear all round, even after nearly 20000k on the km2's.

I run my KM2s at 44 psi hot on the road and about 18 psi off road. Ride is fine, tyre wear is even so far and I think it's good for fuel economy. Someone years ago told me about a 10% rule; use 10% less than the tyre rating... They reckon everyone runs their tyres too low...

While we are on tyres... I love this site http://www.carbibles.com/tyre_bible.html the fourth page is great for working out tyre dimension changes.

ive heard that the load on that tyre/max load of the tyre ratio is the same as the pressure you want to run/max pressure of the tyre...
so for example a tyre has a max psi of 65 for weight of 2300lb, and the load on a tyre for ur car is roughly 1000lb, then you'd use 10/23 x 65 psi which is about 28

why waste time calculating though? the chalk test seems to work fine and easy to do??

Totally agree this is the only way to work out what tyre pressure to run

I run 35psi on the road and air down to 25-26 for the trail, when the tyre cools down I end up with 22-23 psi.
