Default WJ V8, petrol recommendation and exhaust question

Hi,

I just bought recently a 11/2001 WJ V8 (not HO). What petrol are you guys using? Is E10 good enough, as it was built for 93 octane?

Another questions is about the exhaust. Are there any cheap mods or inexpensive upgrades available for the exhaust, to get a bit more of the V8 sound?

Hi mate, I replaced the big factory muffler with a straight through muffler and not only does the Jeep sound awesome, it also improved fuel economy.
Depending on the size of muffler you get, you may get a little bit of drone at highway speeds but the WG/J are pretty well insulated.
For fuel I havent used any E fuels but you can get away with regular unleaded.

Thanks mate, here is a 'exhaust specialist' around the corner. I will visit them monday and see if we can't get a bit more sound then Sounds fairly easy to accomplish.

For the unleaded you use 91 or 95?

It will run ok on E10 but you have to be a little carefull because it can absorb moisture and lead to injector problems if there is water in the fuel tank.
I mostly run 91ulp but im on lpg as well. 91ulp is a little low and you will get the occasional pinging when pushing it hard , mixing in a bit of 95ulp will prevent this.

I have been told if a bit of water gets into the tank you can add a bit of metho to the tank , now I would take it that if a lot of water you would need to flush out ,
but metho ?

Metho absorbs/mixes with the water and remains combustible so the water is burnt off. Assuming of course only a small amount of water.. Since the primary component of metho is ethanol adding a 1 litre bottle to a 50 litre tank of petrol is like your own e98 mix.

However since e95 is 5% ethanol ot has the same effect of dissolving the water.

how about aeroplane fuel ?
I know some people use it as it does not produce carbon. bloody expensive though .
as for exhaust as far as I know to get fumes out quicker is good , but taking out to quickly takes away the "cushion effect" for the exhaust valves and cause them to run too hot and burn them out. I reckon replacing any part of the exhaust is good for a car as carbon hinders the fumes to get out , and then there is the 02 sensors ? how many clog ? from using a sealant . so the question is , what about the fuel ? how much carbon does ethanol cause ?
