so ive spent the day on it and its all come apart surprisingly well. 2.5 inch lift means i can get the sump off while the car is sitting on the ground.

i had to remove either the starter motor or extractors, i chose the starter.
what halfwit decided that one bolt would be 15mm and the other 16mm
or was that 14 anyway grrrr

yes ive now got oil drips all over the place, cam looks good piston skirts and bore looks good.

rear seal looks like is not even contacting the crank journal.

for 450000km the rear journal looks acceptable

now its just clean up everything

though the timing chain cavity looks fairly dry, there was oil there but i wouldn't say it was bulk oil, maybe that's normal

sup was clean except for small chunky bits of carbon around the drain hole

all in all im pretty happy with my day, tomorrow its clean up everything inc. tools and get ready for reassembly.

how where's that bolt go hahahah

Default update

so its all done and running.

the rear main seal upper half is a pain to get out, getting the new one is a HUGE pain

other wise all running sweetly, seems to idle nicer seem to have a little more get up an go and is surprisingly quite.

the harmonic balancer outer half was loose and only staying in place because the rubber sleeve was so hard it had created a ridge that stopped the outer damper ring falling off, so may have contributed to the noise.

only negative is that i forgot the oil slinger , disc that fits between the lower cam drive gear on the crank and the inner seal on the cover.

i had a look on YT and some seemed to have it others not, im not pulling it apart again so i guess time will tell

will i get better fuel economy, nah probably not
although the stretched chain would have retarded the ignition slightly so maybe
also probably why it seems to be running smoother...slightly more advance

just guessing

so no more oil leaks yea

Good stuff,

I guess mine will need doing soon. I’ve clocked up 350,000 km, so only just run in, but will probably need doing in the next 100,000 km.
I wonder if there is a full rebuild kit out there with all the parts in one box so you can just tear the motor down and rebuild entirely to get another 450,000.

Cheers,
