Default SMITTYBILT - JK SRC Stingray Hood

Has anyone installed this bonnet, looking for feed back as to the quality and fit, i have a diesel and not sure if the vent placement will work, i know you get what you pay for, but price seems good for a metal bonnetClick image for larger version

The vents are only for show so it doesn't really matter where they are

Like all the US designed bonnets they are designed for petrol engines. The diesels long fan shroud gets in the way of many vents.

The vents on the very first release didn"t fit properly but this has been fixed apparently. Apart from that past issue they are fine.

As for "cooling" IMHO - not convinced that any of of the aftermarket bonnets make big improvements.... probably don't hurt but not going to be a miracle cure.

If you like the look then go for it... any change in cooling is a bonus.

Hi MightyMouse, what do you suggest to help with cooling and is it mainly the hot air trapped within the engine bay making it hot?

Cheers, Craig

In a petrol..... move the cats from under the bonnet to under the vehicle.... makes an enormous difference to the under bonnet radiated and convected heat.

Ceramic coating of the exhaust manifolds is also effective especially if your running headers ( i.e. not a 3.6 ).

Of course this is not a bolt on or simple DIY fix so not suitable for many. But stopping the heat buildup before it becomes an issue is far more effective that trying to reduce it afterwards IMO.

Move the cats away from the engine and you'll most likely fail a smog test.....if that ever comes up. They stick the cats on the ends of the manifolds to promote fast warm up of the cat to meet emission standards.
Just a thought......

A possibility...... but it effects cat light up time rather than normal operation. So far ( 4 years...... ) mine doesn't throw lights or codes except when the shonky OE cats fail.
