Default RHD TJ Heater Core

Well I purchased a RHD TJ here in the US. People over here seem to be afraid of them because the “parts are so hard to find!” I think it’s more that they don’t want to put the time into finding them, or are just cheap.

So far I have managed to locate adjustable front and rear track are from a company in the UK. But I have been searching all over for a heater core and have not been successful. I did find some info saying I can modify a core from a 2003 Cavalier. Before going that route, I thought I would see if you guys have options to still get them new.

If anyone has a lead on where I could find one, let me know! I look forward to modifying this TJ. Being RHD, people over here get a kick out of it.

Maybe just get on Australian eBay site - eBay.com.au and filter location for search as Australia only. RHD ones will come up, but probably not all that cheap and postage from Australia is quite expensive as well.

There are a lot of RHD specific parts that are harder to find and will drive you crazy, like steering dampers, the heater core hoses of course need to be RHD (achievable, but you have to find some - the old ones often need to be cut off so can’t be reused - I found some recently you might need, Australian company that makes RHD ones, search “Mackay Heater Hose Jeep TJ), steering / suspension parts and even basic things like floor mats. And some wired stuff too - I have an Aud delivered 2005 TJ and the blower motor resistor failed. I purchased the correct one for 2005 but turns out Australian delivered 2005 / 2006 TJ’s were factory fitted with the early model blower motor resistors. ARB is an Australian company and they make a steering damper - but only in LHD!

I got a replacement RHD TJ Heater Core from Morris4x4 - OK, so it was 9 years ago and I can't find any on their website now. Morris Item # was 4874046 - maybe Morris can advise where they sourced them from.

EDIT - RHD Heater Core was made by Behr Engine Cooling, I removed these ID tags before install...

Hmm - I haven't visited here in quite a while but I'm looking at radiator info and this popped up.
I've just been through a heater care replacement and bought one from https://www.ebay.com.au/p/13005675854?iid=174456496448 in Canberra. Not sure about shipping to USA but it fits well [IMG][/IMG]- 2006 65th aniversary but an email to them is free. They were very responsive when I asked questions. Still agonising over what to do with my leaking core but an option is to try to have it re-cored. A half decent radiator shop might be able to do it.
It is an exciting exercise - back to looking now.

I got a new radiator recently - local radiator shop, not too expensive and a good outcome.

Was your heater core as big a job as they say? Remove whole dash ect....

It was interesting. Very interesting but doable.
Watched a few videos on YouTube with some removing the whole dash, seats and steering wheel and column. Others a little less but I found one where they disconnected everything then lifted the dash up out of the way. I did that. Trick is to be sure all the key nuts and bolts are removed. I think there were 5 nuts in the engine bay that hold the heater box in place. With a hand and pressed for time, 2 keen people could do it in a day or kick back and take a weekend. The place I bought the core from said his boys could do one inn 4 hours.
Hardest part maybe, was removing one of the air-con lines. Having a good small 1/4" drive socket set and thinking about how to get to things helps. I did have to loosen a lot to get the vacuum lines out from behind everything. Was worried that I'd have to take it all out again.

I’ve often wondered why TJ’s weren’t designed with a simple 2 piece dash to make heater core access easier.
