So true Bushpig .....

Plenty of so-called Aust. legislation over the years has been nothing but kneejerk reaction, unnescessarily implemented, photocopied UN / Euro rulings that are generally not applicable to here.

Our pollution contribution to the world should be about the same as the city of New York given that the population numbers are about the same ..... Which makes Aust. just a small fish in a big pond .... altho our pollies seem to think they are real big frogs in small puddles

Hmm if only CO2 was as bad as some people make it out to be.
If every car had to be Euro 5 compliant now, half the cars on the road would be gone.
But we don't live in Euope, we have different needs. As someone said above Australia's population is as much as some cities in over countires. They can shove their Euro 1 2 3 4 5 6

I'm quite happy to see our vehicles being forced into tighter emission compliance standards. I live in L.A. many years ago and the smog was ghastly. Went back there only a few years ago and talked to relatives who still live there and they said the bad smog days are long gone.

How is that relevant to us here in Australia? Well, I lived in Brisbane up till 3 years ago and there were plenty of mornings in Brisbane I could see a haze of smog, nothing you notice in the day to day walking around the city but still a yellowish haze in the distance. Brisbane has the same problem as L.A. with inversion layer that holds in any air pollution. With Brisbane's population growth continuing, be very glad we have emission controls. I suspect similar could apply to Sydney / Melbourne.

Our total population may be only small but it is concentrated in Bris / Syd / Melb and those cities continue to grow in size. Once you loose clean air, it's really hard to get it back.

Visited Bejing 4 years ago, the air pollution was ghastly. Our vehicles continue to have plenty of power, so no big deal about the emission controls.
