If you havent already, I would suggest logging onto the opposite forum appropriate to this discussion which in all likelihood would be: http://www.fjcruiserforums.com/. Get the opinions of the owners who have been driving them for years (in the states) and not simply people who have only been for a quick test drive as most in Australia would have.

Naturally each forum will be one eyed for the most part to their own chosen brand but only getting the views from one side of the fence won't help in any decision making.

Just one look at the size, or lack there of, the control arms on the FJ was enough for me to know what market they desire

If this isn't a good reason not to buy an FJ Cruiser I don't know what is.

Been some discussion/bashing already

Really do seem to be made for looks, and that is left to the eye of the beholder.

So does this mean that since I have never owned, driven or even been in a vehicle with side airbags or curtain airbags I should should be dead?

Glad I bought a jeep then, at least if it spends most of its time in the Dealer I wont get hurt in it

Just having a lend of course, but I dont think an airbag possible malfunction even comes into the same realm of Jeeps suspension bolts coming undone, rivets on 2011 steering column causing loss of steering etc.. If you wanted to compare the two on safety recalls I think the JK's list is pretty impressive.

Every vehicle has faults and a good manufacturer will publicly announce this problem so all owners know about it and get it fixed.

I have never be inside either car. But a black 4 door JK with off road mods looks absolutely fantastic.
While a yellow FJ looks like a tonka truck.
