I don't know what you mean by technically but a solid axle 4wd, will in most cases out perform an IFS setup. Then there's everything else that goes with modifying a rig which will only enhance the ability of the vehicle, ie mud tyres, lockers, lift etc. These are all useless if the driver doesn't have any idea how to pick a line and judge the terrain.

I'm a big believer in keeping it as light as possible. Mine is nearly stock and hence many hundreds of kilos lighter than friends' vehicles.

Tyres.

By far the best "mod" I've done.
Has made the Jeep so much more capable than it was before.

Buy a decent set and you won't look back, it makes all the difference!

Nothing will make it unstoppable. However quite a few things can improve its success.

First and foremost is as ithers have mentioned driver skill.

Second for me was knowing when and how to disengage the JK's ESP system as this will hinder you on long slippery hills, sand and mud.

Next was tyres, swapping from the stock to Duratracs made a huge difference.

The lift made a little difference to getting stuck in the belly and side rails but most importantly combined with the front swaybar disconnect improved suspension travel enabling all 4 wheels to stay on the ground more often improving forward traction greatly.

Lastly for me is the inbuilt Brake Lock Diff system which acts like a poor mans locker when a wheel does lift. Only improvement on that system would be real lockers.

Im going to go against the group and say a good vehicle can go long way to making up for (lack of) driver skill and experience.
I say this because I'm pretty new to the whole 4wd world but i have a pretty well setup Rubicon (lift, 33's, sliders etc) that makes me look good.
I'm going places via lockers and good clearance that vastly more skilled drivers are struggling with in lesser cars.
