Manuals are good but now were good.
In my opinion since the advent of dual mass flywheels, things have changed.
The DMF has changed the feel of a manual, they feel spongy on take off.
The major factor is the cost of repair of DMF system. To me the cost is ridiculous, defeats the idea, purpose of an inexpensive clutch system compared to an automatic system.
I had a manual JK 2007 Unlimited diesel, didn't know it was a DMF system, never again.
Suggested consensus fix was to convert to single mass. But long term reliability was not proven. That jeep driveline is one expensive system to replace if all packs it in due to the vibration frequencies from the diesel engine, my thoughts were of all those big and small bearings having to take the extra vibrations generated that were once cushioned by that DMF system.
I didn't need to replace a clutch or DMF.
So if I were to buy another Diesel manual, for me I would choose a vehicle that came standard with a single mass flywheel believing the whole vehicle would be designed, engineered for it.
