Default CarPlay head unit replacement

Anyone swapped out the factory head unit (not mygig) for a 6 or 7 inch touchscreen with CarPlay? Do you need to add an a separate amp to run the sub? Potentially losing the sub is the main thing putting me off bringing it into the 21st century.

A few of us in the WK2 forum have swapped out our stock head units for the Teyes cc3. I believe they have them for the JK too, all plug and play
They have Android auto although not needed and am fairly certain they support the apple carplay now too

I use a 9" Alpine iLX-F269E head unit and coupled with a wireless CarPlay adaptor from Ebay, it feels really modern. There's pic of it here. Personally, I think the biggest screen possible with CarPlay or Android Auto is the way to go so 7" is the smallest I will consider in future. Stick with the big brands - the faster processors, better screens and better interfaces in Pioneer, Sony, Alpine and the like are worth the extra money.

You will need a PAC RP4-CH11 control interface to use the factory amp and steering wheel controls as well as a facia kit for your year model because the stock head units are wider than regular double-DIN head units. There are adaptors to reuse the OEM reverse camera too but I think a cheap aftermarket camera with IR LEDs for night time works better.

I just had the Kenwood DDX9020 head unit installed. Great unit and works really well for Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. My audio guy installed it all. The rest is Audison gear he recommneded and it is fantastic. It works with all the steering wheel buttons and a new reversing camera. Soundproofing throughout made a big difference too. Gear is the following:

5ch amp - Audison SR 5.6 (under passenger seat)
Sub - Audison APS8R 8 inch (in sub enclosure with soundproofing and new cover).
Speakers - APK163 in front and soundbar.
Audison tweeters (API)

I’ll be swapping out a 12 month old Alpine iLX-107 from my JK very soon.
7” touch screen, Apple CarPlay, Siri, GPS, camera inputs, etc, etc.
It’s currently working perfectly off the steering wheel controls.

As others have said you should just need a wiring kit like this one, that you can get locally for under $200.
This specific one says it runs all of the steering wheel controls and the factory sub; https://aerpro.com/chch3c

I just picked up this JK for the wife the other day, the previous own had this head unit professionally fitted about a year ago, but the wife needs Android compatibility.
Was going to throw this Alpine up on market place for cheap, if you’re an Apple only type person and interested in it let me know.
