Default Engine Bay Clicking Noise

Hi All,

I've looked through the forums and I can't find anyone that has had the same problem as me so I'm hoping you can help. I've got a 2006 Cherokee KJ 3.7L. The problem is when I get to 60km/h or more a clicking noise comes out of the passenger side of the engine bay. It's not audible from inside, only when I pass another car or a t-barrier because I can hear it bounce off them. The clicking gets faster the faster I go but below about 60km/h it disappears. I am going to jack the car up this week and check for movement in the tyre and anything in the engine bay that may be hitting the wheel, and I want to know what else to look for as well.

The second problem I have is with the air conditioning. When I set it to head and legs, it only blows air out of the head vents. If I set it to leg vents only it works fine. And if I set it to recirculate it only comes out of the head vents too. The windscreen de-mist vents work if I select them as well. Any help is appreciated.

Cheers,

Dave

Check the alternator decoupled pulley, it can make that noise after the clutch has failed. Normally it can be heard at idle though.

The 3.7 gasser does not have an alternator decoupler pulley...the 2.4 gasser and the CRD does have such a device.

But you knew that glend....you are obviously just testing us

Dave as far as your air con problem is concerned....check the vacuum pipe coming into the cabin from the intake manifold. In the case of the CRDs this vacuum for the air con flaps comes off a separate vacuum pump.

After taking my CRD to the Dealers for a service I noticed the air flow only coming from the demister vents...maybe foot well as well?

I turned around at once and the Dealers straight away connected the vacuum pipe back onto the vacuum pump where they had knocked it off.

The first Sticky at the top of this page has a link to the Jeep KJ Service Manuals for the various years. Download your year Manual and read up on how the system works!
