Default Slow Startup, Smokey Exhaust

Hi All,

I've got a new problem with my Cherokee. It used to start up instantly when I turned the key but now it takes a second or two longer and isn't a healthy sounding start up either. I read some posts from other Jeep models and did some testing. It starts up better if I prime the fuel pump a few times, and it only has this problem when it's cold e.g. not used overnight, or when I finish work. Once the engine is warm it has no problems. It also seems to have a bit more smoke in the exhaust but again, when it's warm, there's no smokey exhaust. I'm wondering if it might be the spark plugs but if the engine was warm I should still have the same problem, and it wouldn't explain the smoke. It is due for a service soon but I don't want to mention it to a mechanic if I can fix it myself.

As always any help is super appreciated!

If its a CRD, try turning ignition on, count to 10 & then try & start. As we go into winter they need to glow for a few seconds to start.
Please say in your posts what engine you have.

Oh yep sorry mate, I posted this straight after replying to my other posts like I was still on the same post. I have the 3.7L petrol engine in my 2005 Cherokee KJ so it won't be CRD related.
