well this arvo i moved my blue jeep (towing it) to get it on the car trailer for its makeover, it was making a very odd noise, next second the front left side droped like it fell in a big hole, i hoped out to investigate and turns out the front wheel fell off.
first i thought i didnt tighten up the wheel nuts, then i noticed the disc was still attached to the back of the wheel???

the wheel bearing fell apart, guess you need the axles in to hold the bearing together???
and to think i had been driving this around.

so had to drive all the way back to my house and dig out an old wheel bearing, knew i kept them for a reason

at least now i can see how the bearing are put together.

fun times

In the process it damaged the bush. I now have no damper on the XJ until the new one arrives from Online Auto Parts. Then I have to press out the bush and taper bolt and get it sleeved so that it lifts the barrell about 4-5mm off the drag link. Looks like I will have two weeks without a damper . Was going a RE one but the local engineer said he can redo the taper for $20.

Wooders sells steering stabilizer relocation brackets. Think they are Rugged Ridge brand. I needed to fit one for my lift, the original mount point made it foul on the other links. Try that, it's a square plate with two u bolts. Much stronger solution.

No hurry.
I have always thought that it cant be that hard to rebuild the hubs.
Have been told that its not such a big job to modify them so that they dont have the axle as one of the bearing surfaces. Or was that the back ones?
