Got a good friend/trustworthy++ in Vic?? Register it in their name, ship or drive to W.A, techincally a "used car", within reason of course $ wise, brought from someone in Vic......... Just happened to get a good deal from a person with sudden other needs.......Lol....., low milage and all......lol......... You could register a caravan/trailer in Vic., but still live anywhere in Aus........ Under $100.00p/y vs about $500.00 in N.S.W at the time plus no annual pink slip inspection ( onus on the owner to maintain), but was a few years ago so things may have changed since........?? Much for a state inspection change of rego there?? Should pass without to much drama being newish.........
You could then send the plates/rego back to Vic. for a refund of time remaining via the local rta road mob as I did moving interstate 1 or 2 times now.....But I never said that...........Lol......

Why register in some one else name, just register it in your own.
Use a relations or friends address.

But a permit to travel interstate for registration is the best option.

Is a permit valid in other States?
WA temporary movement permits are valid for use through SA and the NT up to the expiry date of the temporary movement permit. Vehicles with a current temporary movement permit are also covered for third party insurance by the Insurance Commission of Western Australia while the vehicle is travelling within these Jurisdictions.
Drivers are no longer required to obtain a new permit at the WA / SA or WA / NT border to continue their journey unless the temporary movement permit is likely to expire during the journey. If the temporary movement permit expires, the third party insurance cover also expires. The vehicle then cannot be driven on any road without a subsequent permit being issued.

The driver must present the temporary movement permit to SA or NT authorities if they are asked to do so, or else they may be charged with driving an unlicensed vehicle. This has implications for clients applying for a temporary movement permit over the phone. These clients will need to wait for the temporary movement permit to be posted to them or alternatively they will have to attend a Driver and Vehicle Services Centre or regional Agent and apply for the temporary movement permit in person.

The process described here does not apply to any other Australian Jurisdictions other than SA and the NT.

Permits are for 48hrs but can be longer on application, if approved by the director.

So there you go - get yourself a VicRoads unregistered vehicle permit and a WA RTA(?) permit and switch them over when you get to the border, seems relatively simple.

I'm sure that they will allow you to extend it to more than 48 hours when you explain that you are driving a brand new car accross the country. VicRoads permits are valid for 28 days from memory, so you'll be right there. Pretty sure the VicRoads ones are cheap too. i.e. definitely under $100. Last one I got was about 10 years ago and it was only $40.
