Sure it LOOKS fancy but WTF will they just make a SIMPLE & FAST business platform....... Think Win3.1 ran with 16mb.....Imagine how fast that would be with todays technology........
It's the "bling factor" OR Microsoft's egotism OR perhaps both

FWIW there's a third party enhancement application called vLite (Vista lite) which allows you to remove unwanted bloat-ware etc. it can be found HERE or you could simply wait it out until Microsoft release their trimmed down Windows 7 version further details HERE, I guess they got sick of others cutting and shutting their products ie. 98lite, 2000lite, XPlite and now Vista lite

Yeah I've got fond memories of the Vic-20 era... in fact being the consummate hoarder that I am I still have my original unit plus the 16k expander

I use XP when I have no option (ie. gaming) otherwise 99.9% of the time I'm operating Linux

Another old Vic 20'er here, I had the green screen with (I think 3Mb) expansion card? Anyhoo, got my next PC in '98 or '99 to discover windoze.

I downloaded the RC of this Windoze 7 the day it came out as I felt I was due for a reinstall (previously running XP Pro). I had a few little bugs with the RC of Win 7 yet liked it enough to pay the price. I picked up and built a new system on Thursday night and am really impressed with the finished product.

I'm sure the new system has everything to do with the massive speed hike as I've just gone from an AMD X2 4600 with 2Gb of DDR1 (400 Mhz) and a 10,000RPM drive to an Intel i7 920 CPU, 6 Gb of DDR3 (1600 Mhz) in 3 channel mode with a Kingston solid state system hard drive. The thing flies, will be even more fun when my graphics card turns up later in the week.

Anyhoo I had to make a last minute decision re O/S type as the 3 Gb ram kits were out of stock meaning I had to buy 6 Gb; 32 bit operating systems can only use about 3.5 Gb so I went for it.

I got the pro version as I couldn't justify the extra $ for a bit of data security and a few extra languages.

Anyway driver wise the only thing I haven't figured was the one I most feared; my USB DAC that makes my PC sound CD quality, sounds coming from the motherboard at the moment until I work something out.

This OS is great value especially if you get it OEM with a system.

Thumbs up from me, looking forward to hearing how others are finding it..
