Well... Completed my harness with interface only to find no response from the Pioneer HU. connected it straight to battery and still no response. No illumination or anything.

Back to the electrical store.

Run an extra ground to the stereo frame, see if that works. Make sure it is a direct connection to the metal frame.

Turned out that the Maestro needed programming via website before use. Works great now! If I had an AVIC or NEX, it would provide telemetric info via the IOBD2. I did splice the wires for provision but I doubt I would be upgrading my headunit as all I wanted was bluetooth phonecalls, USB music and reversing camera.

Changed the accessories drive belt and the tensioner and idler pulley. Didn't realise there were two idlers. The second is worn as well. Considering changing my waterpump during the next idler change-out. Has a little bit of play in the bearing but not certain it was contributing to the noise I was hearing.
