Contact FCA directly if the dealer starts trying to fob you off. They should give you a loan car until its fixed.

Absolutely from what you have gathered here, you can already expect how dealers should react, and you should not be shortfall.
Resort to FCA contacts on here if you find difficulties. You can claim your Taxi/Uber fares to FCA(I did today) in the event you need to get to the dealer and back. Tow truck expenses etc.
The matter is handled well on this occasion( if you are part of the recall), but there is still some confusion on the "dealers" end, as they DO NOT know if their work is being covered by FCA - That is the only delays I have seen.
I have received the cheque for the Tow truck, so FCA are very quick.

Pffft, tell them you were counting on your Grand Cherokee for the long weekend and them dragging arse to "create order numbers" is their issue not yours! Sounds like classic fobbing off.

I've now established from Rob Lawson @ FCA that if I pay to have a replacement stock alternator installed by a dealer before mine breaks down (as a preventative measure), they will entertain a claim for that item if/when a recall is issued for the CRD. Then of course the "new improved" version would be installed under the recall. Obviously if a recall is never issued I'm stuck with the cost.
In principal it seems a better option to me than going through the trauma of an alternator failure, assuming a current stock unit is available. Back to the drawing board if not!

Another avenue I'm looking at is to forget about the stock units altogether and just get an alternator upgrade done if something more reliable/suitable exists. In my case it's about towing a 2.1t caravan and the added power demands it has on the car.
Just curious too know if anyone's had an alternator upgrade done by choice to get a stronger/beefier unit fitted for similar purpose, or to manage more electrical ancillaries like light bars etc. If so what did you use, and where from e.g. did you go to a 4x4 specialist?
