Sorry yes did read he has the V6 so some of my comments aren't relevant as V6 is a lot simpler. Timing and fuel would be the main things for adjustment so maybe one of the OBD types would suit. Check out the US Jeep forum Jeep Garage for some threads. Might be some information there.

Remap is still the go in my opinion if you have money to spend. But I guess you could look at it as an investment?

Hi folks

Thanks for your input,

just to be clear.

I am not looking for more giddy-up out of the Vehicle, got plenty of that already,
I am looking to make the car use less fuel.

Since i purchased the Vehicle a year ago i have,

added a cup of Metho to the fuel tank to get rid of any water in the tank.

added an injector cleaner to clean the fuel system and injectors.

New k&N air filter, i don't go off road so i don't have to worry about it gloging up with dust,
I also clean the air filter every oil change.

added an engine flush to the engine oil to clean out the oil galleries.

Add a Teflon treatment to the oil every oil and filter change to reduce friction and extend the engines life span.

Done a complete flush of the cooling system to help it with the hot weather and added a 50/50 mix
of long life anti freeze and distilled water and fully primed and leak tested the cooling system,
as well as a new thermostat & housing.

I am just trying to make the car use a little less fuel
while i save the deposit for a 2.0 TD Auto VW caddy van for work.

Hi Dingo

I'm looking for the cheapest alternative, while i save for the caddy deposit,
which is why i was looking at the chip tune boxes,
the more $$ i can save the faster i can get the caddy and retire the Jeep to personal use only.

Currently Repainting and repairing my 2000 Hilux dual cab 4X4
so i can sell that for a good price and use the $$$ to help with buying the caddy.

Nice stuff...you have done almost all 'the average owner' can do to enhance longevity and reduce friction or heat factors, gaining the best fuel figures available at the same time.
As GC Dingo said...you'll only genuinely get/see real fuel figure reductions with a GOOD ECU Remap/Chip.... $1200-2k.
The increase in power is a side effect...as stated....its then up to you not to use it so as to save fuel.

Hi Farwest

was considering twin turbo and intercooler system with exhaust system upgrade to reduce back pressure,
but big $$ going down that road lol

Did a reset of the ECU and TIPM back to factory spec on Friday arvo,
that helped a lot for my Saturday run, was getting 13.8 to 14.8 per 100km.

after reset it started at 12.5 and levelled off at 13.4 per 100km after 300 plus Ks,
that will increase as the Ks pile up,
but it was a good start to reducing the consumption.

got 300 plus Ks out of just over 1/4 a tank after a full fill up since reset.

Does not seem like you are chasing the cheaper option if you are looking at twin turbos? If you want economy you have to make more power. It means the engine is making the power easier at lower rpm. Just like lifting weights at the gym to get stronger. You can't get better economy and not make more power (engine efficiency).
