Default Petrol Usage

Hi Guys

After some help here, i drive a 2012 Jeep Patriot 2L CVT petrol, i have noticed the last month or so that my petrol consumption is crap, i am currently getting about 13.5l/100km and about 310-315km per tank of petrol, it has been back to the dealer and they tell me there is nothing wrong with it. Most of my driving is short trips between 10-20km as i use it for work.

Does anybody have any ideas that i can go back to the dealer with?

Thanks in anticipation

Another victim of dealer quoted mileage expectations. I've never had a vehicle reach the documented fuel use statistics, as they are based on environments and temperatures different to my area

Start and stop with only short trips means you are going to have a much higher fuel consumption than others who might spend less time at the lights or more time on the freeway. Try to give it a good run, say about 100km on the highway and see what you fuel use is then.

Remember, if it's a hot day, and you are not only using aircon but also getting hot air into the engine, you are going to experience a loss on fuel consumption. discussions will vary on how much

I would be checking what is going into the tank .. do you buy your fuel mainstream or from one of the discounters? .. I ask as these guys tend to be a bit "strange" on fuel quality from experience.
I would be putting 95 or better (not ethanol blended) into the tank and you will find that the extra co$t will be less then the gain in economy.
For the record, I get better then you from my 4l but only on 95 or better.

Yes good fuel good mileage. In saying that I only run 91 as that's what the xj jeep I drive is factory tuned for. Only if I am towing on hot days will it get the 95 oct fuel to help with ping. I can get 530-550 out of my tank with about 5 liters to spear. standard gearing 3.55 standard tyre sizes and I use the torque of the 4.0 to get me up to speed and keep gear changes at 2500 rpm and down. Keep the revs up keep the fuel up. Torque is king in fuel consumption from what I have tested in the xj. I sit on all the speed limits its just that I take a little longer to get there.
