I got a ford tranny cooler from the wreckers I think it as a ranger or sumptin...It was around 2 foot long and 6 inches wide, I did away with all the original trans cooling and mounted it right in front of the fan.No problems since and cost $20

About to fit a bigger trans cooler with radiator bypass. I was told to bypass it due to the warm climate and that they run the trans lines through the radiator to warm up the trans fluid in cold climates, it's not for cooling.

If this is the case, why not bypass the radiator to avoid coolant leaks and just use the stock transmission cooler?
Has anyone tried this?

It's too small.
Upsize the cooler and decide what path you want to take.

I agree with you that if the radiator is cooling the trans fluid, a larger cooler is needed.
But if the radiator only heats up the trans fluid, then bypassing the radiator would make the fluid cooler, right?
So the question is, does the radiator heat or cool the trans fluid?

... because the pissy little stock cooler is not big enough.

The original design for the oil flow is through the cold side of the radiator ... and the auxillary cooler is the factorys' idea of an add on - for towing/whatever.

... but, as can be seen by the US jeep forum oil cooler upgrades ... the factory cooler is all but useless except for light duty needs.

On RHD models the cooler is fitted to compensate for the fact that the radiator unit is dangling in the hot side of the radiator,

... i.e. ... in reality, RHD export models dont really have an "auxillary" cooler fitted at all ..

Two stock "auxillary" coolers and the radiator bypassed.

Inadequate - in my experience.

Got it. Thanks for the clarification.
