Well, the steering rack has to come out, could not move the adjuster no matter how much freeze spray I used, it is now too damaged.
Still cant find any info on how it comes out & not game to ask any dealers to do it as i'll have to rob a bank to pay for it. Have asked the wreckers but they just gut everything out so the motor's not in there.
Life wasn't meant to be easy when you buy a Jeep apparently.

google . 2007 WK Jeep Grand Cherokee steering rack replacement.
is for the v8. I am pretty sure you do not have to worry about the diff or engine in the diesel.WK is US ,WH Aus. or ring up Richard at JeepsRUS in Coffs Harbour. Think he may have done a few.

Thanks bjm, I tried that wording & still couldn't find that exact one but came up with one from jeepforum.com which seems to explain it, still not sure if its the one with the 3 litre Diesel, it did say 2007 CRD but also mentions the Hemi motor, looks like the one tho.
Have got a bloke to do it & can get a second hand rack which is supposed to be a good one ( lol ) just in case mine's too far gone.

Oops, my mistake, it was jeepgarage.org that I went to, now trying to figure out if those instructions are for Left or Right hand drive. If the front diff has to be moved it might be left hand drive.

I tried to remove mine a few weeks back in my crd it's not possible even with the diff removed. It's due for a service soon so im going to remove the sump and see if that will give the required room to remove it and if not might end up being unbolt the motor and box and pull it forward and up to give more room.

BUGGER ! that's not I wanted to hear, have you actually tried & got so far or haven't started yet, I've been told it SHOULD ! come out by a jeep bloke but he didn't actually say it WILL !!! Cannot get a definite answer on it so will have to look at that adjuster again & see if I can annoy it out. There is a good kit you can get from USA with a heavy duty piston & an Easy adjust to replace the stupid torx fitting, but I gotta get that old one out.

Cheers, Mike

P.S. 07 Commander, do you have a Commander, I suppose the Chassis & Front crossmember are the same.

Well, finally attacked the adjuster, boy was it stuck, just kept chopping at it with a cold chisel & long screwdriver until it moved. Undone the 2 large bolts holding the steering box then moved it up & to the left to get at it. As per photos the wear pad on one side was completely gone & the metal on that side was just starting to wear. You get a set of nolathane type bushes with the kit but there's no way you can fit them without the steering box out, what a shame. I have never seen such a stupid setup in all my life. putting a steering box THROUGH a crossmember ???

Mike

Having trouble uploading photos ?
