Running power through passenger side firewall

Hey all,

I’m looking to run power through the passenger side firewall. Ideally the grommet above the battery box, that’s has the rear window waterline going through it.

I’ve seen a few post on people doing it, but I’m Looking for an idea on how to run the lines cleanly through it. I’ve current removed the glove box etc to have a look but I current cannot see the end.

Any pointer would be good, I’m sure heaps have done it. I’d like to avoid the gotchas. I’m installing a twin arb compressor under the passnager seat. With the teraflex barket.

Pull out the passenger AC vent near the door (align the vent to see the place where you stick a screwdriver to lift the pin, quarter turn to the side and pull gently), push out the side panel that has the ' rear mount baby seat will become a projectile if the airbag goes off' sticker and there is a foam covered hole there that pushes through the top top back of the engine bay under the cowl to the side where many people have dented when letting their front door swing wide without the stop strap.

I use about a metre of straightened coat hangar to push through a couple times before attaching the wire thats going through the space. I think I have 7-8 cables going through there currently.

I have used the same hole/bung for running cables etc for driving light control switches etc. I did not take any panels off. I used a piece of stout fencing wire to pass through the grommet hole which I actually re-sized with a stanley knife so that everything would fit through. I then attached the cabling with gaffer tape and pulled it/them through. I simply threaded them so that they were under the A/C unit and/or across/behind the dash.

I also initially threaded the aerial for the UHF radio through the same grommet hole. However, after working for a while, the radio would transmit but not receive. This was because (I think) I had to many electrical cables going through the same grommet with the aerial and this caused a lot of electrical interference with the aerial. In addition, the aerial was being routed behind/also next to the battery which added to the same problem.

So, if u look on the driver's side (which is the US passenger side) on the right, remove the little cover panel between the right door frame and the steering wheel (same as but reverse of (L) hand side). U will see a bit of foam filler that has been put there as part of the L conversion to R hand drive. U can use a large screwdriver or similar to make a hole that u can then thread cable thru. I used the fencing wire trick here as well once i had a large enough hole. The hole will more or less seal itself.

I have used this side for placing the UHF aerial only. Problem fixed!!! Isn't it great - two holes for the same thing!!

I agree with NTRubicon and humdingerslammer. I have used that exact hole to run my wiring from starter battery through to rear battery for my setup. Additionally you can run the wires down the AC vent area and out the back of the passenger seat footwell and down through the side trim of the door so the wiring remains tidy and tucked away.
