3.6 lack of acceleration from 4000 rpm
Hey guys,
3.6 JKU Auto 2014
Not sure if I got a dud batch of fuel or similar, would appreciate any notes or similar experiences people have had?
Whats happening:
Approx 20 minutes after getting a tank of fuel (Caltex 98, I normally put e10 in) I noticed a reasonable lack of go in general, figured it was just because it was a hot day, went to overtake on the highway and as soon as the RPM needle hits just past 4k it feels like it's hitting a rev limiter except without the cool noise.
After doing some testing besides a wall which reflects noise i'm reasonably certain the car is pulling fuel or spark at that point.
I couldn't hear any knock sound from the engine.
No fault codes logged or MIL/CEL, the lack in accel is pretty consistently based on RPM even under higher load (say 1st vs 3rd) so I don't think it's airflow related / choking.
Air filter passes the eye ball test, no other obvious restrictions in the air inlet.
I ran this tank down to 1/4 then filled it back up with my locals high turnover e10 and went for a quick 10 minute drive, no change in behaviour but no idea how much fuel is in the lines in these things.
Anything i'm missing?

Wouldn't be the first time a station has had a dodgy batch of fuel....if running a tankfull of different gas through it does nothing, try an overdose of EFI cleaner in a fresh tank....if nothing else, you may need to think about replacing the fuel filter...although you'd think that would throw a code?

Does the 2014 3.6 have a separate filter, or just the ones in the tank on the pickup, like the older 3.8?

Could be a partially blocked cat converter in the exhaust where a piece of ceramic has broken off and blocking the outlet. Had a similar problem in my boy's XJ.

Just as a suggestion, does yours have the insulation on the underside of the bonnet? In my '14 it came loose and partially blocked the intake. Same deal, seemed to hit a wall when accelerating.
However in my case it did throw a code, so it probably isnt likely, but thought it might be worth mentioning.
I cleared the code, and chucked the insulation and all good [emoji4]
