What Jeep do I drive?: TJ
Unhappy Im ready to burn my jeep to the ground . Fuel woes

Ok so I own a 97 tj wrangler it's done 210,000 km and is manual
Stock 52 liter tank

When I first purchased it I got 330km per tank and now I can't even get close to 300 km per tank It chokes around corners at 280km

It's been getting worse and worse and I'm over it .

Here's what the car has on it

31s (same as when I purchased it)
Banks exhaust

I have changed the following

All o2 sensors replaced with new bosch units
TPS
MAP Sensor
Air intake temp sensor
Coolant temp sensor
All injectors have been replaced
New plugs and leads
New rotor and cap
Cleaned intake and throttle body

Rear drums have been adjusted and don't appear to be grabbing

I'm at a loss as to where to look now .. I really can't understand why it's using so much fuel .
I'm not looking to be a Prius but I would like to see it get better fuel economy than my 900 rwhp track car

Any help would be great

Try the simple obvious stuff, air filter, fuel filter, fuel tank clean and flush, might be full of crap.
Start with the fuel tank clean and flush and then move foward. Fuel filter, if it's old it may be full of crap as well, when was the last time you replaced the airfilter. At least this way you know the cleasest possibly fuel and air are getting into the motor in the first place.

Run higher tyre pressures.
Run a more mild tread pattern.
Fit alloy wheels.
Carry less crap in the vehicle
Make sure the cat & muffler are in good working order.
Lastly - put your foot down less.

The most fuel I can get in the tank is 51 L ... The jeep konks out at 290 km I refill it and it takes 45-50l max , I think I will drop the tank and see what it's like inside , whilst I'm there I'll throw in a new pump assembley for shits sake

Air filter is changed every time I do oil every 10k km

The jeep is always empty it's running 36psi all round also

Personally I didn't think that AUS got any of the 17g tanks, I thought we only got the 19g tanks. Happy to be proven wrong on that one.

Anyone I would certainly be dropping the tank and at leat replacing the fuel pump, the tank filter could be full of shait and that would be stopping your fuel intake.

I would also think about looking at your vent tube and filler tube while it's out, if the vent tube is acting up it will make you stop before the tank is full.

300km and 45l refill... So basically 15l per 100km isn't that about normal for a TJ?
The fact you are only getting around 50l into the tank sounds like your problem and not the engine tune. From your list you have done everything you can for the engine anyway!
Any chance the tank breather is blocked and the pressure build up is shutting the filler off earlier, making you think you are doing less km. How much fuel could you get in there when you first purchased it?
Tank isn't dented by any chance?
Matt

Wow that's great fuel economy from a TJ, every one I now with them average 20 to 22phk's, make sure you don't change to much or you might regret it when you fuel up next

I got 182.5kms out of 36.35L, which is about 19.9L per 100kms. The jeep is practically stock and has all new sensors, a throttle body and injector clean and is running 28.5" tyres (225/75R15). It doesn't carry any load and runs on BP98

Is this what I should be expecting?

Yeah,
Blow off SS Commodores and XR8's at the traffic lights, the MDS system drops back into 4 cylinder mode while they catch up to you. Do it again at the next set of lights....keep doing this until they want a fistfight. !!

Still less fuel than you are burning....

That's. what i call fun. ?
