Never had BBB but I did also have a catastrophe with a angle grinder once. IMHO never wear tracky dacks while using one...... I managed to wrap the material around the wire brush and almost took out Mr Bojangles at the same time.... Put it this way he felt the bristles for a second or two before it jammed up.

Regards A

Hey Wooders.
Thanks for that. Yes would be interested. Hope you don't mind my 2 bobs worth as we are at the same place.

I currently use split cow/double breasted & it do get a bit heavy. Doesn't flex all that well in tight spaces either.
I looked at the ones you posted interest in and reckon that the BXTN9C might lend itself to longer wear periods.
They are all 9 ounce so they should offer protection.
The thing I do like is the fittings available - up to 5XL - you can get room to move with that.

Not sure about the BSX hybrid but it is still 9 ounce.

I also think you need to have the welders collar. Essential for when you need it.
Wonder about the collar on the Blackstallion pigskin although I agree it does look really nice.

Cheers & thanks.

That BSX looks a nice compromise & agree about the collar (got nice welding tan a few times).
Also if getting a couple in it could be a lot cheaper than the last one linked.

Default Welding Jackets

Don't waste your time with the cotton flame resistant jackets. They are just cotton treated with Proban. They will not support a flame but will still burn holes through them when hot metal hits them. I agree the cow hides are too heavy and hot and there are better options available these days. I really like the look of the pig skin jacket and think it would be a good compromise between lightweight and being able to offer adequate protection.

On another note regarding grinding in tracky daks, many years ago a fella I used to work with was using a 9" to cut sheet metal wearing shorts. He was standing on the sheet and cutting between his feet. The blade grabbed and threw the grinder up towards him. Ended up in hospital with stitches in his ball bag, old fella and stomach. Nasty business.

I've leaning towards the full pigskin, a bit or research shows a lot of dissatified people with the combo & flame retartant version. Most positive comments seem to be people who haven't welded with them yet.
IMHO Maneuverability is as important as comfort, and whilst a vinnies leather jacket might be a cheapo method, I've like to spoil myself with the right tool for the job.
