Default Moving TJ from WA to VIC - Road Worthy

Hey all,

Very long time lurker on this site. Have been wanting a Jeep for quite some time.

Finally in a position to purchase. I have my eye on a relatively modded TJ in WA and keen on shipping it over here to Victoria.

Lift, kit, 33's, lockers etc.

I'm hoping someone could give me some advice on the difficulty on getting a road worthy cert for modified TJ's here in VIC? I have read a short thread on VIC rules being quite stringent. But I'm seeing some TJ's for sale in Victoria including road worthy certs that sit outside of these stringent regs.

Any experience or advice on this page that could provide some guidance? The vehicle comes with an engineering certificate for the suspension mods, albeit this was engineered in WA. Not sure if this helps.

I think you'll find the laws here in Victoria are less, not more stringent than anywhere else in Stralya...
...even our northern counterparts came along for the ride back in 2016 - NSW Changes Light Vehicle Modification Laws Allowing 75mm Vehicle Lifts

Your engineering certificate should be transferable to victoria, perhaps someone in here will weigh in or ring Vicroads, they should provide you with the necessary requirements.

I have worked on and modified classic cars for years and my understanding is that now under national rules, if the engineering certificate is issued by an approved signatory in WA and is recognised and valid in WA it should enjoy the same recognition in Vic.

The RWC issuer will likely need to see a copy of the engineering approval when doing the RWC so that they can see that the vehicle has approval for any modifications.

Thanks guys. I guess it might be worth a shot then. Apart from the suspension/wheels there isn't much I would imagine be missing for a roadworthy. The engineering certificate will cover the mods with standard wheels on the car. I don't have these handy, Ill need to buy some used ones or hopefully for a case of beer borrow some of somebody for a couple of days while she gets certified.

Sounds like I need to go to a few local Jeep shops and ask for some 'preferred' local Jeep shops for a road cert it sounds?

.

I would just visit a RWC workshop they will likely not recognise some of the alterations whereas a specialist jeep shop might actually know what they are looking for.
