0630 head on a 01 XJ conversion
Anyone done this, im aware that you need the earlier exhaust manifold, does it meet up with the rest of the exhaust system? Also the coil rail need a mount manufactured but I cant see that being a drama. anyone?
I dont want to go with another 331 head if i can avoid it..

NFI lol.
I think the later models had a difference in the heads (small ports?) to pass emissions.

There are different model heads used in different years, for instance the 95's use the 0721 where as the 96- use the 0630 which us very very similar, the 331 head use smaller exhaust ports and use the split exhaust manifold, like yours, they are generally considered an inferior head due to lower flow and more prone to cracking.
The 0721 head is generally considered the best head with a higher flow rate....
Hope this helps some.....JJ

0630's and 331's The differences..
As far as i know the part numbers stamped on the casting.. 0630 for 97-99 roughly and 0331 for 00-01 4.0L jeep 6 cyl engines. Apparently the 331's , due to the different port shaping and so on, had a cracking problem between cylinders 3 and 4... the exhaust ports are in a different spot and are shaped differently.. I believe.. "" that the best option is to swap my 331 out for a 630 and use an older exhaust manifold.. therefore.. begging the question what else has to be done?

The 0630 was used on the 96 onwards, I have 2 96 model engines here that both use 'em.
The intake manifolds are interchangeable, you will need the exhaust obviously but why not fit extractors at the same time as the early exhaust manifold will definitely NOT line up with you system and is not as good, apart from the obvious coil pack mount I would think it would be straight forward....
The numbers are actually cast into the head half way along between the rocker cover and the manifolds.....
