Howdy @1rocky, first off they are the larger side of the Jayco, and I presume you must have a 4 door given the 2000kg quoted tow capacity. First off the tow bar is rated at max 2300 (from memory that a diesel 4 door auto), the vehicle is rated at 2000, so 2000 it is

As for towing it, mine was a manual sport so had the much taller gearing and a clutch... and I upped to 33's. It was a pig off the line and shocking at hill starts. With the Rubi's 4.1 gearing and the auto you should have no probs at all. However, I would recommend the extra auto cooling for long uphill halls or on the beach.

My only comment is to check clearly the tow ball weight!! I was looking at the littlest one, the Swift from memory, and ball weight was only 80kg. Also looked at the Hawk, about 110kg from memory but the missus decided on the Dove and I never looked at it just assuming it was in the middle around the 100kg mark - it is quoted at 128-155kg but weighed in at 190kg... Over weight technically for the 2 door I had (160kg max) but gave me no probs anyway.

2 in lift is no probs, I had a 2.5in and 33's on mine and it drove and towed better than stock.

As for which one? 4 adults and a bub I would be going for the biggest one you can tow!!

Also don't go for the Jayco standard awnings, poor quality, the next one up is the best option though off the top of my head I can't remember the name but I can look it up for you if you if you are interested (Kakadu maybe??) I can thoroughly recommend the Kitchen and bed end awnings and of course the full annex is a must though we only use the walls rarely.

hi sea comms thank you for all the info looked at the ball weights and they ranged from 130 to 160kg.
yes we have a 4 door rubi only been off the ship a couple of months and because of the rubi as we were doing light 4wd tracks around town we decided we needed a camper. great idea of the upgrade on the annexe.
i am heading back to jayco this morning, how do i check what ball weight is max for the rubicon.
would be interested in the name as really dont trust what sales man say.
again thank you for the info it helps alot.

I've got a 2" lift in my Unlimited and tow a camper trailer all the time with no problems. A drop down type tow mount will keep the trailer level.

Same for me. I had a 2" lift and towed a Cub camper and it sat perfectly level. Good luck? Probably, but that's the way it worked out. The Cub did have the off-road pack so it sat a bit higher than the off road versions. I guess the height of hitch on the Jayco will also depend on whether you get the Outback pack fitted.

Ball weight should be in the manual, but Jeep are pretty consistent with their 10% so if 2000kg tow then 200kg ball, but double check the user guide. Either way you will be well withing spec but still may be worth looking at air bag helpers inside the resr springs. I had them for off road/ sand and Hayman Reece load leveller for long onroad trips.

Will check out the awnings when I get home but from memory there was the Jayco standard, then 2 or three levels of aftermarket abd the first one with heavier sidewalls but still velcro attaching is the one I went for. The really heavy ones zip on and are not needed.

I use this adjustable tow hitch.

I can tow my camper, my boat, my mates boat, the neighbors trailer, a hire trailer or just about anything. It doesn't matter. I can adjust to suit.
