Had the jeep for some time now but have never been able to find out what this button actually does.

Same thing my father in law asked while he helped me work on the car. The car was locked and before I could answer he pressed it and the alarm went off.

Also works as a secured closed electronic marker. Same as a door open sensor. So I have been lead to believe.

Yep, I found out by pressing it with the bonnet open. My neighbours found out too.
