Default TJ mini boatside rockers

G'day fellas. I got rid of my old rock sliders mostly due to the ground clearance loss you get from them. I'd considered the rocker gaurds that Smittybuilt make and are sold by a few vendors but always liked the look of the mini boatsides - any extra sill clearance is a good thing too.

No one gets them into Australia and they'd cost a small fortune to import so I took some measurements, drew them up then had my local steel supply cnc plasma cut them then brake the 2 bends.

I've got a 1" body lift and these were designed for that BL height. The rockers bolt to two side body mounts and the top section bolts through the side panel to a backing plate I had cut. I got some 25nb that I'll bend and weld for a step and side protection. Pretty happy so far.

If anyone wants the CAD file, let me know..

1st pic shows the drawing.
2nd pic is the rockers. Green arrows show the backing plate holes where the rocker holes at the red arrows will bolt to. There's a nice flat section under the door frame that this fits nicely - should clamp the body perfectly. I'll countersink bolts so it's flush on the outside. The yellow arrows point to the body mount slots - I'll need to cut 5mm off the bottom of the body mounts where these will fit into.
3rd pic is the bend template I made from the drawings - the bends were something odd like 35 degrees and 55 degrees so this helped get the right bend angles.

The other holes are just to reduce weight in non critical areas. Every bit of weight reduction helps.

Costs: about $300 for the 5mm plate, cutting time ($180/hr) and the 4 bends. Another $24 for the pipe that'll make up the step. Maybe another $25 between bolts & nuts, mig gas, wire, etch primer and paint.

That $350's not much cheaper than the Smittybuilt rockers but I've got 25mm more sill clearance, a one-off rocker and IMO, it just looks better

I'll post up some pics when they're finished and bolted up. I can probably draw them up for no BL and 1.25" BL too if that helps. Also, if enough people were interested, i could get a bunch made up at the same time..

Got the side rail/step bent last night and burned on. I've ordered some grip tape strip for the top. Pretty happy with the look. Just have to countersink drill the 3 side holes, fit them up and maybe do a little trimming then it's paint time.

Test fitted them today. You've gotta hammer the sill pinch seem up for clearance. It'd probably suck if your panels were perfect
Fitted up alright. Had to cut 5mm out of two body blocks each side and 14mm off the back end of the rockers. I've cut them, flap disc'd the edges smooth, primed and gave them a coat of hammertone black. Final fit up tomorrow and I'll post the pics then. Really happy with how they've turned out. I can make the slight alterations to the CAD file if someone wants to build some?

Finished product painted in hammertone black. Looks more charcoal but I'm alright with it
