I bought my Jeep Laredo V8 after doing over 6 months of research on everything available. I have one other 4wd which I bought not long after moving here...a '94 Tojo Surf. And I bought IT because I wanted the 3 ltr. motor...
But anyhow, I drove everything out there. We have the need to tow a boat all over NSW and the Jeep couldn't be beaten in this category. The Landcruisers/Patrols were too big to park in the CBD(Or Hungry Jack's parking lot if it had a boat on the back) and we couldn't see out the back of the Prado or the Pajero. Plus those two were dogs acceleration wise on the road empty...could imagine what they would be with a towed weight.Discos are just to weird for me(but I can't argue their off road ability) and the softroaders(BMW,Volvo,VW) I would hate to pull back up an unimproved boat ramp without lowrange gear...So the choice was Jeep! The only debate then was the oil burner or the petrol drinker...The noise of the V8 won out in the long run...

Half the reason I bought the CRD (apart form the consumption and torque figures) was the noise too. I absolutely love the diesel 5-cylinder noise at low revs while crawling up trails - a sort of re-assuring clatter-come-burble that is very industrial..... and I like the idea that this engine will probably out-last me..

I agree with the oil burner. I've still got the Tojo with the turbo diesel in it.(But not for to much longer) It's a great sounding truck itself. When I told folks back home about the 2.7 CRD and sent them specs of that motor they are envious because the CRD isn't a Jeep option for them. Told 'em I would trade 'em one for a HEMI 5.7!!!!
