I purchased a key shell off eBay, had it cut by the local locksmith, put the electronics out of the old key in the new key shell and away I went, works fine. The transponder in the WH Grand is in the removable circuit board "not" in the key itself. The local locksmith told me he cold copy the transponder code to a clone key with a inbuilt transponder, no remote buttons, is water proof, will unlock drivers door (manually) and start car. Handy in tropical areas or the beach.

That is the way it finished up.
Chip has to be as close to ignition lock as possible .Don't try and solder or
heat it up you could damage it .
Cheers,
Andrei

I actually pulled the shroud off the column $ taped the key to the SKIM module. Locksmith then cut a "blank" key. I later got a PCM from the US without the security activated.
