I made an error on my previous post, we did 30Nm then 70deg + 70deg.

Ok I'll have a look at what's going on this weekend and re-torque if necessary. Hopefully this solves the issue.

AC fan is definitely missing. Will have to see if I can source a replacement.

Got home while it was still light so I started it up and made a quick video. very faint white foam forming in the bottle so I think I have a head gasket leak...

I dont llke the look of the bubbles at all.
Best do the head re-tension with an extra 20*. Make sure the engine is cold when you do it

Good Luck.

I'll give it a go saturday morning.
If this doesn't work I'll give it one more chance by doing a gasket with new bolts. After that I think I'll be done...

So I went through and undid then retorqued each bolt one by one.
I just went straight to step 2. Torque to 30Nm then I went a bit further to 145* instead of the 130* as per FSM.

Initially it looked like it worked, it has definitely reduced the amount of bubbling, however, it has not solved the problem.

I'm half tempted to nip it up another 10*... Or I'll have to order a head gasket and some new bolts to be safe.

Does anyone know the price for a head gasket locally? I found some over in the UK but I am unfamiliar with the brands so unsure of the quality.

Yes be safe! I broke a bolt retensioning my heads... It was not fun. Luckily, I was able to pull the front head and get the bolt fragments out with little worry.

My main concern here is why did it decide to leak again after less than 3000 km?

Yes phase 2 was skipped, however, it had already been torqued, removed and re-torqued prior to start up. Engines really shouldn't be this sensitive and I've never come across something this sensitive in the past.

My other concern now is when I last removed the heads (from both motors) there were big indents from where the cylinder liner pushed into the face of the head, these were quite uneven. I had them machined out when I had the heads faced and pressure tested during the rebuild. When I remove the heads now, do I have to do anything with them before fitting again? Do they need to be faced once more?
