The only way an alternator recall for the CRD's may happen is if those who have had failures provide details outlining the fault & how similar the failures/symptoms are to the recalled petrol models. Product safety needs this info so they can tap FCA on the shoulder & say WTF is going on as we are getting complaints about similar alternator problems on the diesel Grand Cherokee's

My 14 eco diesel did the same.Diodes failed.Very dangerous situation with complete shut down.
Notified fca and accc.
Cant believe fca can get away with out recall with such a dangerous situation when it fails.

Well done on reporting this to FCA and ACCC. FCA are still in denial that this is a diesel engined problem (grinds teeth). Plenty of accounts on Facebook about the same issue. How bad does FCA's reputation have to get before they act like responsible suppliers, I suspect it's going to take a viral video of a Grand Cherokee in flames on the side of the road for them to yawn, stretch and slowly take action. This kills me because I am considering buying another one but my loathing for FCA is building to a point where I'll hate myself if I do buy another one.

I agree .
The jeep is actually a dam good vehicle.
I hate being locked into the dealer system for various things and try to do my own basic maintainence.
FCA attitude is very poor.
ACCC have done nothing even though there is an accident possibility due to vehicle shutting down.
Just luck as to where and when the alternator decides to fail.

My 2014 Overland died, thankfully in my street.
Had all sorts of warnings and lights start flashing on the dash and then nothing.Needed a new alternator and battery dealer said,Alternator cost $920 and battery $650.I got my own battery and FCA paid 50% of alternator.

I have a feeling that my battery was cooked when my alternator went. The dealer said it didn’t need replacing but ever since then, I’ve had intermittent trouble starting it. I have to cycle through the ignition process 2-3 times until I hear the steering column unlock before putting my foot on the brake to start, otherwise the immobiliser kills the engine.

My theory is that the battery is no longer providing enough amps at start. It’s 5 years old and was out under a lot of stress when the alternator died.

I’ve been planning to take it in for a load test on the battery but just haven’t gotten around to it.

5 year old battery which has been deeply discharged at least once == replace without a second thought.
