Took it for a tow today in preparation for the blueslip check on Saturday. It tows real nice and the Jeep hardly knows it's even there. Still accelerates as before and stops as before, I guess a 4.0lt petrol should with a light weight trailer. I still need to finish the interior and hang the spare tyre back under it, probably another 150-200kg of weight to go with it fully loaded and the 100AH AGM battery on board. I also need to checkerplate the lowersides and add a tongue box.

Anyway, a couple of pics from my test, this is the first time it's been towed anywhere since I started so I was a little apprehensive but I couldn't be happier.

(The jockey wheel comes off for proper runs)

Cheers
Steve

Sweet.

Looks like you need to fit 35s on the XJ so both of em are the same height

Wonderful job!
I have just started up my own business and am hoping that in the next 12 months I can find the time to dedicate a build very similar to tow behind my new JK Wrangler. Won't be buying the Wrangler for about the same amount of time though!

Nice big battery turned up with the courier today, time to start the electrical. As an aside it passed the blueslip inspection on Saturday and now I'm just waiting for a VIN number and then I go weigh it

Anyway, here's the battery compared to a stock Jeep sized battery. It was second hand and had been used as part of a backup system. It's been on float charge the whole time and even now after a week or two at least it's 13V.

Cheers
Steve

This is the fun bit.
So far I've done about 2/3 of what I want to do in my camper, so I'll be watching what you come up with. Top stuff so far.
These guys have some really good very low current draw voltmeters and amp-meters if you're setting up some battery monitoring.
