Totally agree (since I went for a hemi too.), but I recon there's logical arguments either way, depending on the specifics.
CRD probably has the edge for someone towing full-time.
But otherwise they're too close to call IMO, might-as-well just come down to preference.

It's great if everything's in good shape, correct oil viscosity (0W-20 or 5W-20 in good condition.), etc. Sounds like you might've had something going-on, for me I've had partially blocked PCV and slow EGR valve increase consumption without getting any errors.
There's smarts around when MDS activates and for how long, so it can seem like it's working normally. But if something isn't quite right (especially anything that affects the oil and crankcase pressure readings, like incorrect viscosity, bad sensor, blocked PCV, etc.) it will activate less frequently and for shorter cycles.
