you wouldn't think it would be hard to fix another Chrysler mistake

Smile I didn't get it either. useless plastic things.

Hi Mate
My Jk had the same useless bits of plastic on as well.

I recommend aftermarket replacement seals (I got mine from Wooders) to keep mud, sticks and stones out of your front axle.

When I did mine I discovered sharp rocks and sticks in the axle perilously close to the rubber pumpkin (Diff) seals, and if you damage the diff seals and muddy swampy water gets into your diff you will be up for some expensive repairs.

After market axle seals are very reasonably priced (under $100bux from memory) and are easy to install.

My 2c
Small price to pay to fix another genius Chyrsler design FAIL
cheers Hunty

ps - I just noticed that I spelt Axle wrong D'oh - I'm a bit surprised #^%%* hasn't jumped all over this yet! LoL

Thanks, Hunty. I'll add a set of seals to the collection of parts, (4.88 ratios & master install kit so far), to go in once I have them all.

How do these outer axle seals actually work?

The seal cannot possibly maintain constant contact with the axle when you are turning the wheels as the axle actually moves around inside the tube.

All these outer seals will do as far as I can tell is cause muddy water to get inside the axle tube and then sit in there without the ability to dry out?

I don't know what really matters. Rust is hardly going to kill it any time soon and being a Dana the seals won't last long anyway.
